Scientific calculator online
Trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, factorials and combinations on one keypad, with memory and a running tape. Nothing to install, no ads, and your numbers never leave the browser.
What every key does
Keys carry two functions. The white label is the main function; the gold legend above it is the 2nd function, unlocked by the gold 2nd key, just as on an HP or Casio handheld.
| Key | Main | 2nd |
|---|---|---|
| sin cos tan | Sine, cosine, tangent of an angle | Inverse: sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹ return an angle |
| ln / log | Natural log (base e) / common log (base 10) | eˣ / 10ˣ |
| x² / xʸ | Square / any power | Cube / y-th root |
| √ | Square root | Cube root |
| 1/x | Reciprocal | Absolute value |x| |
| n! | Factorial (Gamma function for decimals) | nCr combinations |
| EXP | × 10 to the power (6.02 EXP 23) | Percent |
| Ans | Last result | nPr permutations |
| ± | Change sign | Comma, to separate function arguments like nCr(10,3) |
Pressing an operator straight after = carries on from the answer: = then × 2 gives Ans×2. A missing closing bracket at the end is added for you.
How a scientific calculator reads your expression
A basic four-function calculator works left to right as you press keys. A scientific calculator waits for the whole expression and applies precedence: brackets, then powers (grouped right to left), then × and ÷ together, then + and − together. Step through an example to see the order.
Doing the steps in the right order is what turns a string of symbols into one answer; ahaboo applies that same patient, stage-by-stage treatment to how US tax brackets turn income into a bill.
Show me the steps
An AI tutor walks through the working for any problem you type. The answer above is computed in your browser; the explanation is optional and is the only thing that leaves your device.

Questions people ask
Is this scientific calculator free and ad-free?
Yes. MathVault has no ads, no sign-up and no paywall. Every calculation runs in your browser with JavaScript, so it also works if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Tap the DEG key (it toggles to RAD). The current mode is printed above the display. Use degrees for most geometry and surveying problems, and radians for calculus, physics formulas and programming, where functions like Math.sin expect radians.
Why does −3² give −9?
Exponents are applied before the minus sign, so −3² means −(3²). Type (−3)² or (-3)^2 to square negative three. Most scientific calculators, including Casio and TI models, follow the same rule.
Can I type with my keyboard?
Yes. Click the display and type expressions such as sqrt(2)*sin(45) or 6.02E23/2. Press Enter to calculate and Esc to clear. Function names: sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, sinh, cosh, tanh, ln, log, log(x, base), sqrt, cbrt, root(x, n), abs, exp, nCr, nPr, and the constants pi, e and Ans.
What does EXP do?
EXP enters “times ten to the power of”. 6.022 EXP 23 is 6.022 × 10²³. It is not the same as eˣ, which is on the 2nd layer of the ln key.
How accurate is it?
Results use IEEE 754 double-precision numbers, about 15–16 significant digits, and are shown to 12 significant digits to hide floating-point noise. That is more precise than a typical handheld scientific calculator (10–12 digits).
Is my calculation history saved?
Your last 25 calculations, the memory value and your angle mode are stored in this browser’s localStorage so they are still there next visit. Nothing is uploaded. Clear the tape with its Clear button, or clear everything on the privacy page.
